MacLean covers all ground at Expo Minera: Company to showcase in-country manufacturing, expanded ground control product offer

Collingwood, Ontario, Canada [21 October 2019] – The global mining vehicle manufacturer MacLean Engineering (“MacLean”) will be marking its Mexican manufacturing expansion along with the unveiling of the newest member of its ground control product line, the RB3-Scaler, at Mexico’s International Mining Convention. The Convención Internacional de Mineria (Expo Minera) runs from the 22nd to the 25th of October in Acapulco.

MacLean’s mobile rock scaling mining vehicle is designed in response to the Mexican underground mining industry’s need for safe and productive mechanical scaling options. A unit will be on display at the company’s booth (#122) in the Convention’s exhibition space, where a MacLean team of Querétaro branch employees and head office attendees from Canada will be on hand to welcome visitors.

Expansion activities are almost completed at the MacLean Mexicana branch in Querétaro, approximately 220 kilometres northwest of Mexico City. This work includes the addition of assembly bays, weld bays, a burn table, and overhead cranes. The expansion and new infrastructure installation will be complete by the end of the year. MacLean will then have a 60,000 square foot (5,600 square metre) in-country manufacturing footprint where sub-assembly activities will commence immediately, to be followed in 2020 by full vehicle builds and rebuilds.

“Our decision to start manufacturing underground mining vehicles in Mexico is all about serving our customers better and investing in the long term for market growth across the continent and in Mexico in particular,” notes Kevin MacLean, President of MacLean Engineering.

“With an expanded branch that will help de-bottleneck our Canadian production facilities and also support our Mexican customer base more directly, along with the new RB3-Scaler that we’re bringing to the show, designed specifically with the Mexican mining industry’s ground control practices in mind, the MacLean message at Expo Minera 2019 is loud and clear,” adds Rene Valle, General Manager of Mexico and Central America for MacLean. “We’re committed to the future of this part of the hard rock mining world and our decisions to expand MacLean’s in-country manufacturing capabilities and product range, reflect that belief in the Mexican market.”
