Shifts Available:     Day Shift – 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (5 x 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday)

Location:                 Owen Sound, ON

 

MacLean Engineering & Marketing Co. Limited is looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineering to join our team at our Owen Sound, ON manufacturing facility.  We are seeking an ambitious and progressive candidate to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.  This is a great opportunity to be part of a growing team that manufactures heavy duty mobile mining vehicles for our customers worldwide.

About the Position: The Manufacturing Engineering role is to be the liaison between Engineering and the Manufacturing teams with a focus on improving manufacturing processes to increase productivity and reduce costs as well as develop strategies for improving quality and reducing defects. The position will require proficient, correct, timely and safe execution of the following daily work tasks:

  • Self-Starter capable of providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to MPE Team members. Assign tasks and duties to MPE Team members on behalf of the MPE Manager.
  • Using SolidWorks, add manufacturing details to existing drawings, and to new designs, to outline the optimal manufacturing process for welding, machining, electrical / mechanical assembly, and paint
  • Jig, fixture, part and process design using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and coordinating release into production with ECN
  • Liaise with various internal and external groups to handle exceptions and constructively communicate resolution
  • Identify and define incident-based & systematic problems, and implement temporary corrective actions & containment
  • Assess manufacturability & manufacturing structure for new products, existing products, insourcing and outsourcing
  • Able to create and interpret complex / multi-discipline blueprints
  • Communicate constructively, effectively and enthusiastically with all levels within the organization. Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Estimate timelines pertaining to manufacturing, rework, design, and other related activity
  • Strictly follow safety requirements, including but not limited to wearing PPE, assessing hazards, & ensuring best practices are being followed
  • Display strong written & verbal communication skills, particularly in the area of technical writing
  • Respond to problems / exceptions and initiate NCR, interim actions, and containment.
  • Coordinate containment in multiple facilities and branches as required
  • Assess urgency and severity of issues and implement measurable and sustainable corrective actions. Complete detailed root cause analysis to identify areas where corrective actions and OFI’s can be implemented.
  • Evaluate and communicate with Production group(s) & department Managers and work constructively to investigate root cause and determine corrective actions to implement effective change and error proofing to reduce risk of Operator Errors.
  • Manage large projects pertaining to Product, Process, Capital Equipment, Systems, and other categories as assigned
  • Update drawing details in SolidWorks & AutoCAD to provide clarity or specification, not including structural or functional details
  • Create & implement concise SOP and detailed Work Instructions within all departments as required concisely and audit for conformance
  • Participate in Vendor auditing and re-sourcing as required. Effectively identify Root Cause and audit effectiveness of corrective actions. Attend vendor facilities as required to resolve issues
  • Develop & Implement Quality Assurance programs within all processes to improve product quality and process quality performance.
  • Audit SOP conformance at all levels of the organization and implement revisions as necessary
  • Participate in / assist with CWB audits, including scheduling and reporting
  • Assist in development and implementation of a fully integrated MQS.
  • Independently & confidently assess manufacturability & apply routing structure and standard times accurately and independently within the PDM. Statistically analyze / adjust standard times as required & identify improvement opportunities for efficiency or consistency
  • Perform ECN revisions & process within PDM for approval & provide peer detail review prior to approval. Provide ECN approval as requested by Team Leader
  • Provide accurate Contract Manufacturing estimation & quotation & manage quoted product from initiation to completion & maintain accountability for quoted vs. actual result
  • Identify improvement opportunities, present ROI to all levels of management, manage implementation, and measure results for significant cost reduction, quality / safety improvement, efficiency improvement, or other improvement categories as applicable
  • Communicate ‘Operator Error’ to Operator group(s) without confrontation and work constructively to accomplish correction and change culture as applicable
  • Create & implement drawing standards within MPE and consult with other peer groups to implement same
  • Assist Product Management group with Customer factory inspection visits.
  • Effectively communicate updates, issues and OFI’s with other MPE Teams in other Facilities
  • Capable of leading and implementing Lean/Agile Manufacturing practices.
  • Participate and integrate in new product launch teams.
  • Assist with plant layouts and material flow to ensure efficiency.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Company

About You: The successful candidate has a positive attitude, is open minded, willing to learn and is flexible along with the following qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion
  • Trade Certification in any recognized discipline would be an asset
  • Training / certification in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Project is an asset
  • Training / certification in Drawing / drafting Techniques, Root Cause Analysis, Value Stream Mapping, Process Flow definition, Project Management, Planning & Scheduling, Manufacturing Estimating is an asset
  • Five (5) + years’ Experience using SolidWorks or AutoCAD
  • Five (5) + years Hands on experience and exposure in a conventional Heavy Equipment Manufacturing environment
  • Or Eight (8)+ years’ Experience working in any Manufacturing or Industrial setting
  • Trade experience in any Mechanical or Electrical discipline would be an asset
  • Experience in ISO 9001 & CWB 47.1 background
