Electrical Product Support Technician

POSITION TITLE:               Electrical Product Support Technician

REPORTS TO:                     Customer Support Engineering Manager

SCOPE

The Electrical Product Support Technician (EPST) role is responsible for supporting the electrical system aspects of MacLean equipment including Electric Powered (EV) Vehicles.  The role will add value to this aspect of our equipment by providing technical support and training to the field service and sales groups and customers, and providing feedback to engineering design teams to further improve our products. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide technical expertise to internal/external electrical technicians to commission electrical systems and/or EV products at the customer’s site and offer ongoing troubleshooting and recommended best practices to maintain reliable operation.
  • Ensure all the electrical work carried out meet or exceed the CSA/ESA/local/mining standards
  • Organize, work with and guide other electrical technicians to perform and complete a project that may involve modifying or upgrading equipment in accordance with an engineered aftermarket solution.
  • Train and lead electrical technicians on troubleshooting and repairing high voltage systems 
  • Work with engineering teams to produce repair procedures, Product Service Bulletins, and other plans
  • Ability to upload, download and trouble shoot PLC and HMI and other forms of data logging programs and other related software for the purpose of performing diagnostic reviews of vehicle/system operation
  • Participate in customer inspections of new equipment, follow-up to ensure the work is completed before shipment as assigned
  • Provides technical feedback to Product Marketing and Product Engineering in regards to equipment performance and reliability and suggested improvements
  • Review and analyze field commissioning reports to determine that equipment has been properly commissioned and note any trends that may need to be reported
  • Create and work within all levels of our Product Problem Reporting (PPR) system in order to assist with root cause investigations and corrective action implementations and in a professional and timely manner provide service training on high voltage system
  • Provide field service and training departments with maintenance and operation information on new products and updated components
  • Assess the scope of work related to machine audits and provide a part list for quotation
  • Willing to travel for extended periods of time (for example 1-2 weeks) as required for business purposes on short notice.   
  • May be required to travel internationally 

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES

  • 309A interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson certificate ideal, 309 mandatory.
  • Must be registered with the Ontario College of Trades, with membership in good standing.
  • ESA Master designation preferred but not mandatory
  • NFPA70E Arc Flash guideline and procedures training is preferred but not mandatory
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a licensed 309 Journeyperson, working within a related field of endeavour
  • Minimum 1 year working experience on EV or similar products
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving abstract 
  • Valid passport is required

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Competency in the use of standard MS Office software
  • Strong technical knowledge to investigate, troubleshoot and diagnostic various electrical systems
  • Must demonstrate an adept ability to read, interpret electrical schematic and service manuals
  • Ability to use AutoCAD to revise, create electrical schematic
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines
  • PLC or other forms of programmable logic training would be an asset
  • Ability to prepare accurate, analytical and comprehensive reports
  • Ability to train and transfer knowledge to others
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills in English. Bilingual (English & French) is an asset.
  • Ability to work full shifts in an underground mine
