Battery – Electric Surface Mining Vehicles Built for
Today and Tomorrow

Driving the Next Generation of Surface Mining

MacLean has officially launched its Surface Mining Vehicle Division, built on a simple but powerful belief:
we offer safe, innovative, and fit-for-purpose solutions. For more than 50 years, MacLean has engineered heavy equipment solutions that help mining operations run safer, smarter, and more efficiently. Now, we’re bringing that legacy – and over a decade of battery electric vehicle experience – to the surface mining industry.

MacLean’s Surface Mining Vehicle portfolio offers battery – electric solutions, engineered to support mining companies on their journey toward decarbonization. Our first product in the Surface Mining Equipment Portfolio is the GR8 EV Grader – which is an 18 ft all-electric pit-class grader.

Why we launched the Surface Mining Vehicle Division?

Every mining company with a decarbonization roadmap faces the same challenge:
How do we replace today’s fossil-fuel-based surface mining processes with zero emission, equipment that meet both performance and total cost of ownership requirements?

This is where MacLean steps in.

Our team is in the field – listening to customers, understanding their operational pressures, and identifying the gaps holding back a cleaner and more productive mine site. That real-world insight fuels our designs, ensuring that every MacLean product directly addresses a specific industry need.

What We Bring to the Surface Mining Industry

50+ years of heavy equipment engineering, manufacturing, service, and support

What we deliver?

Hear it from our Partner

Working alongside the MacLean team throughout the development of the Battery Electric GR8 Grader project has been an example of a perfect project partnership. Their professionalism and level of detail from researching operational and maintenance requirements on site and this following into the design choices and ability to effectively implement feedback is a testament to the hard work from all parts of their team. MacLean have not accepted the current industry design of graders as best practice and have actively engaged with on site personal to target problem areas in current grader designs and improve these in the GR8.

From a project management point of view, the team have been easy to work with and have set up systems to track and ensure deliverables are on time and to a high level of quality. Even with the time zones challenges between Canada and Australia there is never a delay in responses and progress of the project. MacLean have been receptive to aggressive timeline requests and have demonstrated an ability to pivot and review all aspects of the project when requested.

We look forward to a continued partnership with MacLean and watching the GR8 go from a concept into the design and validation phase to see the results of the hard work put in by the team.
