Taking the ‘MacLean Way’ to the new economy

August 8th 2023

‘Decarbonization’ is making a good case right now for being the word of the decade, maybe even the word of the century.  Whether it gets referenced in the context of mining companies’ long-term emissions reduction targets or in the broader context of one of the key forces shaping the global economy, the phrase is ubiquitous.

MacLean made the electrification pivot almost a decade ago, and now in our 50th anniversary year, it will frame our product positioning for the next 50 years as a mining equipment supplier. To date, over 50 MacLean battery electric mining vehicles (BEVs) have been shipped to three continents, with close to one quarter of a million operating hours logged. So, we’re helping mining companies take one important step towards meeting their stated decarbonization goals. But just how much, exactly?

Thanks to MacLean Product Manager Javier Rico, we now know that number. The cumulative result of our BEV unit rollout since 2018 – the MacLean contribution to GHG footprint reduction in the mining industry – is approaching seven million kilograms of CO2 equivalent since 2018.

With four MacLean EV Series fleets either already deployed or soon-to-be-deployed, the all-electric future for mining has arrived in North America and it’s just getting started around the rest of the mining globe.
