The Largest Single Fleet Of Maclean Mining Vehicles In Africa Delivers, Year After Year.
The Kibali gold mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has seen many changes since mining operations began in 2012: Particularly, the transition from a contractor-run project to a large-scale open-pit and underground operation under Barrick Gold. Throughout the mine’s evolution, one thing has remained constant: the MacLean Advantage that delivers vehicle safety, productivity and reliability, along with site-level service and support for Kibali’s production support vehicle fleet.
MacLean first arrived onsite during the decline development phase at Kibali in 2013. Contractors operating the mine brought in three EC3 Emulsion Chargers, a WS3 Water Sprayer, a FL3 Fuel Lube Truck, and a BT3 Boom Truck, all from MacLean’s trusted Mine-MateTM Series.
After years of reliable service, MacLean’s presence at Kibali grew — a testament not only to the superior performance of MacLean machines, but to the strength of MacLean Engineering as a valued partner in Kibali’s growing success. As the new owner of the mine, Randgold (now Barrick), added four additional rigs to the Kibali fleet: another EC3, another BT3, an SL3 Scissor Lift with pipe handler attachment, and a TM2 Mobile Concrete Mixer.
Kibali’s fleet of MacLean rigs illustrates the MacLean Advantage in action. MacLean’s dedicated team in South Africa has worked closely with mine management and operators to provide the training, maintenance and support needed to keep Kibali running smoothly. With operations forecast to continue at Kibali through 2036, MacLean looks forward to providing dependable support for years to come.
Another key benefit of the MacLean fleet is the commonality of its spare parts. This translates to using as many of the same parts and processes as possible across multiple products – for instance, a MacLean 3-Series Cassette Truck (CS3) has a 95% critical spare parts commonality with a MacLean 3-Series Boom Truck (BT3). The ease of maintenance, when the dimensions across all the carriers are identical, has resulted in shorter maintenance turnaround times at the mine.
Talking about versatility and safety of MacLean rigs, one good example is the Scissor lift, SL3, that has made pipe handling easier underground and has made operations much safer by minimizing human interaction.
