POSITION TITLE: Technical Writer
LOCATION: Collingwood

MacLean Engineering is looking for a talented and energetic Technical Writer to add to the existing skills of our Documentation team. If you want to grow your career with a world-renowned company in the design and manufacturing of mobile mining equipment, this position is for you!

About the Position: The Technical writer is responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation for all of MacLean Engineering equipment including underground mobile mining equipment, municipal equipment and attachments, as well as industrial equipment. The following proficiencies are required:

  • Creating and revising both operators and service manuals within the guidelines of industry standards including SAW and ISO for the applicable equipment and geographical location.
  • Authoring and maintaining Publications material listings for internal MacLean Engineering use by various departments including Engineering, Product Management and Filed Service.
  • Authoring and maintaining Operator’s manuals with support from Engineering and Marketing departments.
  • Work with all MacLean Engineering Departments in the streamlining and standardization of all our manuals.
  • Work with the department manager to develop and maintain meaningful departmental metrics, schedules and workflows
  • Champion technical publications process improvement initiatives.
  • Participate, as requested, in customer site visits for the purpose of validating vehicle operating and maintenance instructions.

About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in a related discipline is required.
  • One to two (1-2) years’ technical experience in a production and/or heavy mobile equipment environment.
  • One to two (1-2) years’ research and technical writing of either operator’s or service manuals.
  • Experience with MadCap Flare or other topic-based writing platforms.
  • A clear understanding of design procedures and a strong ability to read and understand engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe FrameMaker, SGML or XML, S1000D or DITA, Corel Draw, LinkOne is an asset.
  • Excellent proof-reading skills for reviewing electronic documentation with regards to proper format, spelling, and grammar.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with peers from other departments to complete tasks on time and on budget.
