POSITION TITLE: Manufacturing Engineering
LOCATION: Barrie, Ontario
MacLean Engineering is looking for a skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineering to join our team in Barrie, Ontario. About the Position:
The Manufacturing Engineering role is to be the liaison between Engineering and the Manufacturing teams with a focus on improving manufacturing processes to increase productivity and reduce costs as well as develop strategies for improving quality and reducing defects. Responsibilities also include definition of manufacturing structure, jig/fixture design, drawing detailing for manufacturability, creating / implementing quality standards, Pre-Delivery Inspection of equipment, standard time analysis / correction, cycle time improvements, providing quotations, and various other project work. This is a great opportunity to get involved with product and process development and to learn more about the business! The following proficiencies are required:
- Using SolidWorks, add manufacturing details to existing drawings, and to new designs, to outline the optimal manufacturing process for welding, machining, electrical / mechanical assembly, and paint
- Jig, fixture, part, and process design using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and coordinating release into production with ECN
- Liaise with various internal and external groups to handle exceptions and constructively communicate resolution
- Identify and define incident-based & systematic problems, and implement temporary corrective actions & containment
- Assess manufacturability & manufacturing structure for new products, existing products, insourcing, and outsourcing
- Able to create and interpret complex / multi-discipline blueprints
- Communicate constructively, effectively, and enthusiastically with all levels within the organization. Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
- Estimate timelines pertaining to manufacturing, rework, design, and other related activity
- Strictly follow safety requirements, including but not limited to wearing PPE, assessing hazards, & ensuring best practices are being followed
- Display strong written & verbal communication skills, particularly in the area of technical writing
- Respond to problems / exceptions and initiate NCR, interim actions, and containment with some support and guidance from peers & peer groups
- Coordinate containment in multiple facilities and branches as required
- Consult with peers & peer groups to assess urgency and severity of issues and recommend corrective actions
- Identify basic Root Cause & perform basic Root Cause Analysis & assist peers & peer groups with complex analysis
- Participate in project planning & manage project tasks as required or assigned by Team Leader or Manager
- Update drawing details in SolidWorks & AutoCAD to provide clarity or specification, not including structural or functional details
- Create SOP and detailed Work Instructions concisely and with some peer consultation
- Identify vendor issues, summarize vendor performance & make recommendations for corrective actions
- Participate in Internal Quality Audits, including scheduling and reporting
- Follow existing SOP's and assess basic conformance or need for revision
- Participate in / assist with CWB audits, including scheduling and reporting
- Assist with PDI process as required & create MQS specifications with minimal consultation
- Assess manufacturability with some consultation from peer groups & apply routing structure and standard times accurately and independently within the PDM
- Assist peers & peer groups with ECN revisions & processing within PDM for approval
- Assist with Contract Manufacturing estimation / quotation & manage project subsets
- Identify improvement opportunities and assess ROI & implementation of correction with some consultation from peers and peer groups
About You: The successful candidate(s) must have a positive / open-minded team-attitude with excellent communication and time management skills. Willingness to learn, attention to detail, and a high technical aptitude are also required. This position requires some hands-on problem solving (factory and field) along with in-depth analysis using various computer programs, specifically Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Dynamics AX. The successful candidate will have a firm understanding of how to approach problems with different audiences and navigate toward the solution strategically. The following qualifications are required:
- One to Three (1-3) years’ Experience using SolidWorks or AutoCAD
- One to Three (1-3) years Hands on experience and exposure in a conventional Heavy Equipment Manufacturing environment
- Or One to Three (1-3) years’ Experience working in a Manufacturing or Industrial setting
- Trade experience in Mechanical / Electrical Assembly, and conventional fabrication an asset
- Experience in ISO 9001 & CWB 47.1 background
- Minimum High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion
- Trade Certification in any recognized discipline would be an asset
- Training / certification in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Project is an asset
- Training / certification in Drawing / drafting Techniques, Root Cause Analysis, Value Stream Mapping, Process Flow definition, Project Management, Planning & Scheduling, Manufacturing Estimating is an asset
This position is for the Day Shift, Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
