POSITION TITLE:              Indirect Buyer 

LOCATION:                        Collingwood, Barrie, or Owen Sound

About the Position: The Indirect Buyer will focus on supporting operational and engineering activities by ensuring the accurate, timely purchasing of indirect materials and services, including MRO, R&D, IT, Finance, Marketing, H&S, CapEX, and other shared services. This role involves executing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring cost-effective and high-quality purchasing processes.   The following proficiencies are required: 

 

  • Manage the sourcing and procurement of indirect goods and services (e.g., MRO, office supplies, IT services, facilities management) to support operational needs across departments.
  • Source, select and maintain Approved Suppliers based on consistent monitoring of departmental key performance indicators of Quality, Delivery, and Cost
  • Administer the tender process through the creation of RFQ’s and RFP’s
  • Process internal requisitions and generate corresponding purchase orders to suppliers, clearly specifying the required components and/or services to be delivered 
  • Ensure that Purchase Orders are clearly indicative of specified requirements and that the Supplier’s products and/or service will meet specified requirements at the most competitive price and will be delivered on time at the right quality
  • Purchase and expedite standard, non-standard, inventory and non-inventory products
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with competent and dependable Suppliers and Subcontractors to effect timely delivery of products and services
  • Work closely with departments such as Engineering, Finance, and Operations to understand requirements and ensure procurement aligns with project timelines and budgets
  • Ensure procurement activities adhere to internal controls and external regulations. Mitigate supply chain risks through supplier diversification and contingency planning
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and service-level agreements for the procurement of required materials and services from approved suppliers
  • Contribute to cost-reduction initiatives by leveraging supplier discounts, optimizing order cycles, and analyzing spend data to identify savings opportunities
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and ensure data integrity in the ERP system (D365)
  • Co-ordinate or liaise with Supplier and Logistics to ensure the proper transportation mode, documentation
  • Maintain the approved Supplier List as well as document and maintain currently quoted prices of product(s) to be purchased
  • Assist in supplier auditing to ensure that delivery and pricing are consistent with stipulated requirements of Quality, Delivery and Cost
  • Participate as required in Early Supplier Involvement Teams
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to procurement processes, including digital tools and reporting systems 
  • Any other relevant duties and activities assigned by the Purchasing Manager

 

About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:

 

  • 3-5 years of purchasing experience, preferably in heavy equipment related industry 
  • 3-5 years of experience with MRP/ERP
  • Proven organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Proven time management skills 
  • Primary knowledge of problem solving and analytical skills leading to business problem resolution 
  • Proven ability to communicate professionally and effectively (both oral and written) 
  • Excellent telephone skills and mannerism 
  • Demonstrate initiative with continuous improvement, i.e. providing suggestions leading to cost reduction and/or containment, increased efficiency, increase communication, etc.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a busy, stressful environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment
