POSITION TITLE:              Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst  

LOCATION:                        Collingwood

 

 

MacLean Engineering is looking for a talented and energetic Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst to add to the existing skills of our team. About the Position: The BI Analyst plays a key role in delivering data-driven decision support across the organization. Using Microsoft Power BI as the primary tool, you will create meaningful and impactful reports, interactive dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs). You will source and integrate data from a variety of systems, including SQL databases, custom APIs, and OData feeds from Dynamics AX / Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (F&O), to provide timely and accurate insights that drive operational efficiency, product performance, and strategic initiatives in our underground mining equipment business. The following proficiencies are required: 

 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across to understand business requirements and translate them into data models, reports, and dashboards.
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI reports and dashboards that visualize key metrics, trends, and KPIs for manufacturing, equipment performance, sales, and operational processes.
  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data using Power Query, SQL queries, custom APIs, and OData connections from Dynamics AX F&O and other enterprise systems.
  • Build and optimize data models in Power BI, including relationships, calculated columns, measures using DAX, and hierarchies to support complex analysis.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security in all reporting solutions, including implementing refresh schedules and governance practices.
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting processes and improve data accessibility for end-users.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on data discrepancies and provide recommendations for process improvements.
  • Present insights and findings to technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership, to support decision-making.
  • Stay current with Power BI features, best practices in BI, and industry trends in mining/manufacturing analytics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:

 

  • Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Three or more (3+) years’ experience in a Business Intelligence, Data Analyst, or similar role, with proven expertise in Power BI.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Power BI (including Power Query, DAX, data modeling, and dashboard development).
  • Solid SQL skills for querying and manipulating data from relational databases.
  • Experience connecting to and integrating data from OData sources (especially Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations / Dynamics AX) and custom APIs.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and data integration techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel advanced functions an asset).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • High level of professionalism, honesty, and integrity.
  • Bilingualism is an asset (French and/or Spanish are desirable).
  • Experience in manufacturing, heavy equipment, or mining industry is beneficial but not required.
