Position: Environmental Management Systems Coordinator

Purpose of Role
Responsible for supporting continuous improvement initiatives that reflect MacLean’s Engineering’s Environmental objectives, mission, vision, and values, implementing and administering standardized Environmental processes to ensure compliance to Federal, Provincial and Municipal regulations as well as other requirements, and upholding conformity to ISO 14001:2015.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Environment
- SupportManagers andSupervisors in the development, implementationand monitoring of environmental management system (EMS)objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), andcontinual improvement initiatives/activities.
- Monitorandmaintaincomplete records oflegal compliance requirements andassistManagers andSupervisors withplanningto andachievingenvironmentalcompliance.
- Respondto andinvestigate environmental incidentsand concerns.Assess urgency and severity of issues andprovide input toimplementimmediate, and/orlong term,measurable and sustainable corrective action plans. Complete detailed root cause analysis toidentifyareas where corrective actions and opportunities for improvement can be implemented.
- Ensure environmental controls areestablishedand maintained for all key equipment and processes.
- Work in conjunction with Quality to schedule andfacilitatejoint management reviews,at least annually,tomonitorabove areas.
- Determine,withManagement,therisksand opportunities of environmental aspects bymaintaininga list that includesriskpriority number to be reviewed upon implementing controlsor other changes.
- Conductandmonitorrisk assessments with relevant team membersat each facility for environmental risk and compliance.
- Coordinate outside resources asrequiredfor compliance monitoring requirements at all facilities.
- Analyze metrics fromrelevantprocesses to implement EMS initiatives across all levels of the company.
- Supporttheenvironmentalinternal auditprocess,providing focus, direction, and leadership.
- Support registrationat due datesand provide annualupdates for Facility EASR registry.
- Maintainprocess flowchartmapping needs to track the continual improvement of theEMS;maintainan overall process integration flow.
- Provide guidance on the development, auditing, editing, and approvals of high-level processworkflows, standard operating procedures,environmentalstandards, work instructions, and other supporting documentationin relation to environmental aspectsand the EMS.
- Conduct gap analysis of processes andsubsequentcontrols, providing training to process owners to help teams achievelegalcomplianceand conformity to 14001 andourEMS.
- Support, and at times deliver, training to employees to improveEMS awareness and competence.
- Responsible for internal and external communication relating to theEMS.
- Facilitate preparation forexternal audits.
- Travel between Ontario sites asrequired.
- Provide regular reporting of activities, compliance issues and relevant updates to Supervisor or Department Manager.
- Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor ordesignate.
Qualifications
Education
- Environmental Management, Safety, Business, Engineering,Qualityor Sciencerelated diploma, certificate, or equivalent.
Experience
- 1-2yearsof experience working inanEMSroleincluding experience with ISO14001 implementation.
- Generalunderstanding of Federal, State, Provincial and Localregulationsand requirements.
- Demonstrated understanding of fundamental environmental principles, systems, methods, organizational dynamics, supplier relations, training, root-cause analysis, riskassessmentand improvement systems.
- Detailed-oriented and highly organized.
- Team-oriented, positive attitude, high aptitude,humbleand willingness to learn.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite; SharePoint, Visio are assets.
- Self-motivated; able to schedule priorities as assigned and working with minimal direct supervision.
- Well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Creative and innovative withfocuson problem solving.
- Previousexperience within a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of ISO9001 Quality ManagementSystemanasset.
