About the Position: The Production Supervisor position involves planning, directing, and supervising the daily activities of a team of skilled and unskilled workers while at all times ensuring compliance with OSHA and its regulations, and that every reasonable precaution is taken to protect workers. This position requires the following proficiencies:

  • Motivate, mentor, and engage a team of employees with varied skill sets
  • Maximize utilization and efficiency, and control labour variance, by ensuring overall skillset is correctly distributed amongst a variety of conflicting priority work tasks
  • Communicate clear goals, expectations, and instructions to team members. Communicate effectively and constructively with peers and other members of the management team. Attend production and other related meetings and contribute in a cooperative and positive manner
  • Review labour bookings to ensure accuracy. Review any labour variances with employee to determine root cause. Identify correct labour standards and request standard changes as required
  • Participate in the recruitment process as required
  • Work closely with the Materials department to ensure correct and adequate quantity of component parts are available at all times so as to ensure timely and efficient execution of work orders
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure non-conformances are identified and acted upon in an expedient manner. Obtain and distribute work orders to track non-conformances rework, and close same upon completion
  • Monitor workflow, and review priorities to ensure work is completed in a timely manner
  • Monitor team performance and other KPIs and report out on same
  • Approve timecards, review and approve vacation requests based on production demands. Monitor and address excessive absenteeism or chronic tardiness
  • Review and assess the performance of employees on a one-to-one basis, during and after probation period. Coach, mentor, and develop performance improvement plans and deliver corrective action when required
  • Prepare and present detailed, objective, and fair annual performance appraisals to each employee
  • Monitor quality of workmanship and hold employees accountable for the same. Review Quality Alerts with responsible and/or affected employees. Maintain the “Quality Index” and participate in the definitions of “Manufacturing Quality Standards”
  • Work closely with ISO Coordinator to ensure measurement devices and instruments are maintained and calibrated. Participate as a team member, with all ISO initiatives, including risk analysis, and assist the development of, and changes to, Standard Operating Procedures. Train employees regarding content of any new or revised SOP
  • Delegate weekly HS&E inspections, and review monthly JH&S Committee inspections, followed by prompt development and execution of action plans to address any deficiencies and non-conformances found
  • Enforce the use of PPE and ensure safe work practices are being followed at all times, correcting employee behaviour if necessary
  • In the case of injury, ensure employee receives prompt first aid treatment, prepare First Aid Reports, and investigate and prepare accident reports, followed by prompt development and executions of corrective action plans to address root cause
  • Prepare and deliver offer of modified duties, and otherwise work with HS&E Officer to develop return to work program
  • Conduct formal H&S risk analysis, developing and executing action plans as may be required to eliminate risk of employee injury
  • Provide “New Hire” position specific orientation. Deliver or otherwise ensure all new employees receive prescribed general and work specific safe work training
  • Conduct daily “Toolbox” meetings, and monthly “Safety Talks” as may be required, in an effort to develop a Safe Work Culture facility wide. Follow up on employee feedback with HS&E Officer as a result of employee meetings.
  • Utilize Apprentices on a variety of work tasks, to ensure adequate exposure to all performance objectives listed within the Apprenticeship Training Standards for their specific trade. Ensure Apprentices are teamed up with an experienced trainer, and ensure performance objectives are reviewed, and training record is signed off at frequent intervals
  • Achieve profit enhancement through cost reduction. Analyze workflow, and research new methods and procedures to enhance productivity and maximize efficiency. Formulate process and improvements and implement

About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion
  • Certificate of Qualification in related metal fabrication, mechanical or electrical trade is an asset
  • Three (3)+ years’ experience working in a supervisory or leadership role from within a similar manufacturing environment
  • Previous, formal, “Front-Line” supervisory training
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form
  • Exceptional time and crisis management skills
  • Sound computer skills (MS Office)
