POSITION TITLE: Product Support Technician – HazPak
LOCATION: Owen Sound, Ontario
Reports To: Product Engineering Manager – HazPak
MacLean Engineering is looking for a Product Support Technician – HazPak to join our Diversified team. This is a great opportunity to be part of a growing team, focused on designing and manufacturing recycling equipment for customers in North America and Internationally.
The HazPak team is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving safety in recycling. This is a dynamic position with opportunities to expand the role to include involvement in project management, improvements to existing equipment design and the development of new product lines.
About the Position: Reporting to the Product Engineering Manager, the position is responsible for current products from the Diversified Division: HazPak Line, supporting factory assembly, on-site installation/commissioning and providing technical support to customers from the office and at the customer’s site.
Specific tasks for the Product Support Technician position include but may not be limited to:
- Travel to customer site/MacLean branches to provide direct technical support globally (primarily urban locations in North America and Europe).
- Travel to customer site to install and commission new equipment upon delivery and provide technical assistance to contractors. Continuous time at customer site can be up to a month in duration during equipment installations.
- Troubleshooting both remotely and at customer sites.
- Total travel requirements estimated at twelve to fourteen (12 – 14) weeks per year.
- Handle customer inspections of new equipment, and follow-up to ensure the work is completed before shipment.
- Field follow-up calls on recent deliveries, provide feedback on performance and develop recommended spares list for new machines.
- Provide technical product training to external and internal resources.
- Assist the engineering department with root cause investigations.
- Provide technical summary reports.
- Review and analyze field commissioning reports to determine trends.
- Prepare feedback for operational improvements and/or deficiencies to Product Marketing Manager and/or Product Engineering Manager.
- Provides technical feedback to Product Marketing and Product Engineering regarding equipment performance and reliability.
- Assist with developing lifetime operation cost models on new equipment.
- Support design and manufacturing teams to develop new prototypes and existing machines.
- Develop and maintain maintenance and operation manuals.
About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude. Ideally you will have had experience working within a similar metal fabrication, heavy equipment assembly environment, and you possess the majority or all of the following qualifications:
Those qualified for this position should be capable of demonstrating the following qualifications:
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technician/Technologist or Millwright or Industrial Electrician
- Minimum one to three (1-3) years’ of experience working with fixed industrial equipment
- Work experience with PLC-based automation systems (Allen-Bradley) preferred
- Hazardous area training/experience preferred
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency with MS Office
- Ability to train and transfer knowledge to others
- Strong investigation and diagnostic skills
- Very good written and verbal communication skills
