Manager – Quality Assurance

About the Position: The Manager of Quality Assurance and Operational Excellence provides expertise and leadership in support of the Company’s objectives to establish, implement, validate and maintain our Quality Management System and Quality Assurance Program according to the requirements of ISO9001 and, in accordance with the values and principles of the “MacLean Way”, to ensure consistent quality of products, methods and processes as well as working with Team members across the organization, to promote and implement continuous improvement strategies to strive for global Product excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: 

  • Self Starter, capable of providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to manage and motivate Quality Team members in multiple locations domestically and internationally, develop internal auditors and to communicate Quality goals and objectives to all Stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and maintain our comprehensive quality management system to ensure adherence to industry standards and best practice, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a global Quality Assurance program that ensures at source quality validation and compliance to engineering and product quality specifications.
  • Develop quality assurance requirements and processes to be followed at all levels of the organization to ensure a goal of zero defects from all work centers.
  • Assign day to day and longer term project tasks and duties to Team members.
  • Set goals and objectives for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with company’s plans and vision and communicate them to the Team.
  • Directs all aspects of the Quality Management functions, ensuring the SOP manual is updated and maintained in accordance with ISO requirements.
  • Maintain, assess and update QMS/SOP database and communicate new SOP’s and SOP revisions across the organization to stakeholders.
  • Develop, lead and evaluate regular internal Quality audits at different facilities.
  • Long term planning to prepare and implement the QMS and ISO9001 certification across the global organization.
  • Assess compliance issues and non-conformances and implement measurable and sustainable corrective actions. Complete detailed root cause analysis to identify areas where corrective actions and OFI’s can be implemented.
  • Host and oversee regulatory or customer audits and Management reviews.
  • Coordinate and communicate action plans to Senior Management and relevant Stakeholders based on internal and external audit findings.
  • Work with the team to prepare quality documentation, templates and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for all personnel to the requirements of our Quality Assurance Program and mentor Team members across the organization in the detailed interpretation of the Quality Management System.
  • Review performance and provide on-going support, mentoring and training to direct reports.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Maintain timekeeping and personnel records.
  • Provide updates to Team members on company policies, rules and general information updates from the organization.
  • Ensure adherence to legal and company policies and procedures and work with HR to undertake disciplinary actions if the need arises.
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety rules and policies by Team members and evaluate health and safety risks for activities or implementations in factories or branches.
  • Evaluate, hire and train new employees under the HR guidelines.
  • Report regularly to Senior Management regarding KPI’s including but not limited to, risks and opportunities, non-conformances and areas for improvement.

About You: The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:

  • Minimum University degree or College Diploma in a Technical/Engineering discipline
  • Training in Supervisory Studies and Certificate of Completion is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a heavy equipment manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Supervision and Mentoring direct reports.
  • Must have experience and success preparing SOPs and overseeing ISO audits.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Previous experience and success in audit techniques and training.
  • Strong technical and practical knowledge in manufacturing processes, evaluations, test procedures.
  • Proven ability to assess, improve and/or re-design current processes/procedures to maintain and improve product quality.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines while being efficient, effective and flexible in unanticipated situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong ability to motivate, develop, assess and mentor direct reports, internal auditors.
  • Must be able to effectively prepare and report executive summaries to Senior Management.
  • Ability to travel to other MacLean Engineering facilities both domestic and international as necessary.
